Combined treatment of murine SA-l tumors by human leukocyte interferon alpha and electrotherapy

چکیده
Antitumor effectiveness of human leukocyte interferon alpha (IFN-a) was assessed in combination with electrotherapy. Subcutaneous fibrosarcoma SA-I tumors were treated with IFN-a for five consecutive days. The results indicate that IFN-a given either locally (peritumorally) or systemically (intraperitoneally) as a single treatment has moderate antitumor effect. In order to potentiate its effectiveness, IFN-a was combined with electrotherapy. Low level direct current ranging from 0.2 to 1.2 mA for 60 minutes was delivered via Platinum/Iridium electrodes placed subcutaneously, outside the tumor. Combined treatment with electrotherapy and IFN-a given intraperitoneally, proved to have more than additive antitumor effect, assessed by tumor growth delay. Interaction between the two treatment modalities increased at higher current levels used for electrotherapy. The results indicate that IFN-a and electrotherapy interact in local tumor growth control. Therefore, electrotherapy can be used to locally potentiate systemic IFN-a treatment or vice versa, the latter agent can potentiate the effect of electrotherapy.

Electrotherapy with low-level direct current (DC) can induce antitumor effects in various tumor models. Applied in combination with certain anticancer drugs, it can significantly increase their effectiveness. It has been suggested that the demonstrated effects of electrotherapy arise from its modification of tumor blood flow. The effect of such treatment on blood perfusion of solid subcutaneous...
متن کاملPotentiation of bleomycin antitumor effectiveness by electrotherapy.
Electrotherapy was investigated for its ability to increase the responsiveness of murine tumors to bleomycin treatment. Mice bearing fibrosarcoma were treated with 250 micrograms bleomycin and then with 0.6 mA direct current (DC) for 60 min. Antitumor effects of single treatments were moderate with bleomycin, but significant with electrotherapy. Combined treatment with bleomycin followed by ele...
متن کاملComparison the treatment effects between simultaneous dual frequency and single frequency irradiation of ultrasound in a murine model of breast adenocarcinoma
Introduction: Transient cavitations induced by low frequency irradiation of ultrasound can be used to treat tumors. Previous studies in in-vitro experiments have shown that induced cavitation by dual or multiple frequencies of ultrasound is greater than induced cavitation by single frequency irradiation. In this study, we compared and evaluated the treatment effects of dual frequency irradiatio...
متن کاملTHE PRODUCTION OF MURINE MONOCLONAL ANTIBODIES (MAb) DIRECTED AGAINST HUMAN T- LYMPHOCYTE SUBSETS
The production of murine monoclonal antibody (MAb) has not yet been reported in Iran. The present work describes for the first time the generation of several murine hybridoma clones secreting MAbs directed against human leukocyte surface antigens. The secreted antibodies by hybridoma clones have been screened on different lymphoid and non-lymphoid tissues. Results indicated that of seven h...
